The Richmond Hill Bakery

I love it!

This was my second visit to the richmond hill bakery, and I love it! The smell of coffee permeates the air, the food is mouthwatering and the ambience is exactly what you want from a non pretentious village cafe. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but I like that sort of ‘spit and sawdust’ atmosphere!

Both times i’ve been, i’ve taken my 11month old daughter with me and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. After i’d selected my table and dumped the bags, I went to the counter and ordered. Before I had had a chance to ask the staff for a highchair, I turned around and one was being assembled for me. The staff then carried my food and drink selection over to my table as I was grappling with an ever wriggly Effie!

They serve mini brioche buns with a selection of fillings … I did mean to take a snap of mine but i’d gobbled it up before I remembered! The choices were egg mayo, bacon and sundried tomato (I had this one and it lasted mere seconds on the plate!) Parma ham and mozarella, chicken and pesto I think and a few others, but I think these change daily. Regardless they all looked absolutely delicious and if the other fillings were half as good as mine, I can highly recommend.

They also sell the most delicious looking fruit tarts and tasty treats. So although i’m not too sure of the health benefits of these treats, they do look gorgeous and perhaps next time i’ll indulge!

Effie meanwhile was very happily playing in her high chair having rummaged through the cafe’s own ‘toy box’ ! So don’t fret about entertaining little ones, as there are books, and toys a plenty. The cafe is split into two levels, and the top floor has more floor space if you have children who would rather sit on the floor and play, and I got the feeling that all the other customers in there who were childless were absolutely fine with the excess noise and hubub that children inevitably create!

The top section of the cafe is also home to a little gift shop display. The items have been cleverly chosen, look gorgeous on display and are extremely tempting! Homewares, toys, cards, gadgets and lots more are all on offer, so pop in when you’re next passing to pick up an unusual gift for that ‘friend who has everything’. You could grab them a gorgeous strawberry tart birthday treat on the way out too!

Food – 8/10
Would have been a 10 but I feel they could up their ‘health’ consciousness by including some more wholegrains and sugar free options in their baking

Atmosphere – 10/10
Faultless, I just love it, it’s the exact vibe I want from an afternoon cafe

Child friendly – 8/10
A little outdoor space is always helpful but due to their location i do understand that this isn’t practical. For the space they have I think they do well and I love the ‘help yourself’ toy box, and books and they do have a changing table which is a bonus!
